About Lalit Kala Akademi
Lalit Kala Akademi, the National Academy of Art, New Delhi, was established by the Government of India as an autonomous body on 5th August 1954. It was granted statutory authority in 1957 under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. Since its inception, the Akademi has been dedicated to promoting creative endeavours of Indian artists and engaging a wider audience, playing a significant role in shaping and redefining cultural sensibilities within the visual arts spectrum.
With its commitment to excellence, the Akademi actively preserves, documents, and promotes visual arts of the highest order. Through its exhibitions, educational programs, and research initiatives, it highlights the evolving trends in ancient, modern, and contemporary art in India. It maintains a library, a permanent art collection, archives, a conservation laboratory, and regularly publishes books and journals on visual arts.
